1. YOUR DATA RIGHTS
Under GDPR and other privacy laws, you have the right to access, export, correct, and delete your personal data. This page explains how to exercise these rights.
2. DATA EXPORT (RIGHT TO DATA PORTABILITY)
You can export all your data from Ahlan in machine-readable formats:
What's Included in Export:
- Account profile (name, email, avatar, bio)
- Conversation history and transcripts
- Contact list and relationships
- Translation history and preferences
- Saved phrases and custom dictionaries
- Account settings and preferences
- Billing history and invoices
- Activity logs and analytics data
Export Formats:
- JSON (machine-readable, most complete)
- CSV (for spreadsheet applications)
- PDF (human-readable summary)
- ZIP archive (all formats combined)
3. HOW TO REQUEST DATA EXPORT
- Go to Account Settings → Privacy → Data & Privacy
- Click "Download My Data"
- Select format (JSON, CSV, PDF, or all)
- Confirm your password
- Export generated within 24 hours
- Download link sent to your email

4. DATA EXPORT TIMELINE
- Simple Export: Generated within 1 hour
- Large Export (1GB+): Generated within 24 hours
- Complex Data: May take up to 30 days (per GDPR)
- Download link valid for 7 days
- Can request multiple exports
5. DATA CORRECTION
You can update your personal data directly:
- Account Settings → Profile: Edit name, email, avatar, bio
- Account Settings → Privacy: Update privacy preferences
- Account Settings → Billing: Update payment method
- Changes effective immediately
- Historical data retained for audit purposes
6. DATA DELETION (RIGHT TO ERASURE)
You can delete your account and all associated data:
- Go to Account Settings → Privacy → Delete Account
- Enter your password to confirm
- Choose deletion speed: Immediate (7-day recovery) or Permanent (30-day wait)
- Confirm deletion
- Deletion processed within 24 hours
7. ACCOUNT DELETION OPTIONS
Soft Delete (7-Day Recovery)
- Account deactivated immediately
- Data retained for 7 days
- Can log back in to restore (within 7 days only)
- After 7 days, permanent deletion begins
- Recommended for accidental deletion
Immediate Delete (No Recovery)
- Account deleted immediately
- Data begins deletion process within 24 hours
- Permanent within 30 days
- Cannot be recovered
- Backups deleted after 90 days
8. WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR DATA AFTER DELETION
- Content: Removed from active database immediately
- Backups: Deleted within 90 days
- Audit Logs: Retained 1 year (legal requirement)
- Analytics: Anonymized, not linked to account
- Third-Party Data: Deletion requests sent to services
- Other Users' References: Not deleted (e.g., in their contact list)
9. DATA YOU CANNOT DELETE
- Payment records (required by law, 7 years)
- Audit logs (required by law, 1 year)
- Legal holds (if involved in dispute)
- Historical conversation data (if recipient hasn't deleted)
10. PRIVACY CONTROLS
Manage what data Ahlan collects and uses:
- Analytics: Opt-out of usage analytics tracking
- Marketing: Opt-out of promotional emails
- Profile Visibility: Make profile private (contacts only)
- Search Indexing: Prevent profile from appearing in search
- Activity Status: Hide online/offline status
- Read Receipts: Disable message read receipts
11. THIRD-PARTY DATA SHARING
Control how your data is shared:
- By default, data is NOT shared with third parties
- Optional integrations (calendar sync, etc.) require explicit consent
- Revoke integrations anytime in Account Settings
- Third-party services have 30 days to delete shared data
12. REQUESTS FOR DATA
If you need to make a formal data request:
- Email: privacy@ahlan.app
- Subject: "Data Subject Access Request" or "GDPR Article 15 Request"
- Include: Full name, email, account ID
- Response time: 30 days maximum (may extend to 60 days for complex requests)
- No fee: Requests are free
13. REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
This page complies with GDPR Articles 15 (access), 16 (correction), 17 (erasure), and 20 (portability), as well as CCPA rights and similar privacy laws globally.
